About the game

Counter-Strike 1.6 is the team shooter that raised whole generations of players. Two teams, Terrorists and Counter-Terrorists, play short rounds: one plants the bomb or holds the hostages, the other tries to stop them.

At the start of each round you buy weapons and gear with money earned in earlier rounds. If you die, you wait for the next round, so every mistake matters and every round you win feels earned.

Classic maps like dust2, inferno and nuke are still played today on thousands of servers, from competitive matches to modes like Zombie, Deathrun or Surf.

Windows says it protected your PC. What do I do?

That is SmartScreen, which warns about newer or less downloaded programs. Click More info, then Run anyway. You can check the file with the SHA-256 code below.

The game starts with a black screen.

Start it once in a window: in the shortcut properties add -window at the end, then pick the resolution in Options > Video. Also update your graphics driver.

I see no servers in the Internet tab.

Allow the game through the firewall (Windows asks on first launch) and press Refresh in the list. On work or school networks UDP ports may be blocked.

How do I check the file was not modified?

In PowerShell type Get-FileHash followed by the file name. The code must match the one below.
