Recommended settings for CS 1.6

There is no perfect config for everyone, but a few basics help almost anyone. Set them once and they stay saved.

Where to put them

In the game folder, inside cstrike, create a text file named userconfig.cfg and write the commands there, one per line. The game reads it on every start.

Mouse

sensitivity 2.5
m_rawinput 1
m_filter 0

m_rawinput 1 reads the mouse directly, without Windows acceleration (works on newer builds). Pick your own sensitivity: lower helps aiming, higher helps quick turns.

Crosshair

cl_crosshair_color "50 250 50"
cl_crosshair_size small
cl_dynamiccrosshair 0

A small, green, static crosshair is easy to see on almost every map.

Network

rate 25000
cl_updaterate 101
cl_cmdrate 101

For a good connection (cable, fibre). On weak or mobile internet, lower cl_updaterate and cl_cmdrate to 60.

Other useful ones

hud_fastswitch 1
cl_minmodels 0
voice_enable 1

hud_fastswitch 1 switches weapons as soon as you press the key, without an extra click.
