How to play CS 1.6 with friends

CS 1.6 is most fun with friends. There are three simple ways to play together.

1. On the same internet server

The easiest. One of you finds a server in Find Servers > Internet, right-clicks it and chooses Add to Favorites, then sends the others the address (IP:port). They type in the console:

connect IP:port

To be on the same team, join one after another and pick the same team at the start of the round.

2. On a local network (LAN)

If you are in the same house or on the same router: one person clicks New Game (or Create Server), picks a map and starts. The others open Find Servers > LAN and the server shows up there. If it does not, allow hl.exe in Windows Firewall on every PC.

3. Your own internet server

For a group that plays often, a dedicated server rented from a hosting company is worth it. It stays online when your PCs are off, and you can set a password, maps and modes.

Same version?

Not needed. Every version on this site joins the same servers, so everyone can have the theme they like. Send your friends the site link and you are ready in minutes.
